Set up your email on Mac (Apple Mail)
Updated 4 July 20266 views2 min read
This guide shows you how to add your Tech Temple email account to the Mail app on your Mac. It takes about two minutes.
Before you start
You'll need:
- Your full email address (for example, you@yourbusiness.com.au)
- Your mailbox password — the one set when the account was created
If you're unsure the password is right, check you can sign in to webmail first at https://mail.yourbusiness.com.au (using your own domain).
Your email settings
Your mail server is mail. followed by your own domain.
| Setting | Incoming mail (IMAP) | Outgoing mail (SMTP) |
|---|---|---|
| Server / host | mail.yourdomain.com | mail.yourdomain.com |
| Port | 993 | 465 |
| Security | SSL/TLS | SSL/TLS |
| Username | your full email address | your full email address |
| Password | your mailbox password | your mailbox password |
We recommend IMAP — it keeps your mail on the server so it stays in sync across your Mac, phone and webmail.
Step 1 — Add an account
- Open the Mail app.
- From the menu bar, choose Mail then Add Account. (If you already have accounts, go to Mail then Settings then Accounts and click the +.)
- Select Other Mail Account… and click Continue.
Step 2 — Enter your details
- Enter your Name, Email Address and Password.
- Click Sign In. Mail will try to detect the settings automatically. If it can't, it will ask for them — that's normal, continue below.
Step 3 — Enter the server settings
- Set Account Type to IMAP.
- Incoming Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.com
- Outgoing Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.com
- User Name: your full email address
- Password: your mailbox password
- Click Sign In.
Step 4 — Choose apps
Tick Mail (and Notes if you'd like), then click Done. Your inbox will start syncing.
If sending doesn't work
- Go to Mail then Settings then Accounts, select your account, and open Server Settings.
- Untick Automatically manage connection settings.
- Set the Outgoing (SMTP) server to mail.yourdomain.com, port 465, SSL on, username = your full email address (try port 587 if 465 fails).
Troubleshooting
- Won't connect: confirm the host is mail. + your domain, incoming port 993 and outgoing 465, with SSL on.
- "Username or password incorrect": your username is your full email address. Confirm the password by signing in to webmail at https://mail.yourdomain.com.
